Gov. Jerry Brown has filled the last seat on the University of California Board of Regents, officials with his office have announced.
Brown appointed West Sacramento resident and democrat Gareth Elliott, 44, to the university’s governing board Friday.
The position requires Senate confirmation and offers no compensation. If confirmed, Elliott’s term would expire March 1, 2025.
Since 2011, Elliott has served as legislative affairs secretary in the Office of the Governor.
UC Regents Chairman Bruce Varner said:
“Gareth Elliott’s legislative expertise and deep interest in educational issues are a valuable addition to the board.
UC President Janet Napolitano said:
“Gareth Elliott will bring to the board his critical experience in state legislative affairs, a welcome addition as the university engages with our elected leaders.”
Prior to working in the governor’s office, Elliott worked for three different state Senators starting in 1996.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Humboldt State University.
