At least nine vessels were set adrift around the Bay Area due to high winds Tuesday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Coast Guard officials said some of the vessels had broken free of their mooring lines while others were simply dragging their anchors. Most of the incidents occurred in Richardson Bay near Tiburon and Sausalito, though other reports were scattered throughout the Bay Area.
Coast Guard spokesman Theo Vaughan said:
“We urge mariners to make sure they double up on their mooring lines, or ensure they have adequate anchors.”
Vaughan said reports started coming in Tuesday morning and crews were still in the water trying to recover loose vessels as of the afternoon.
