Raiders fullback Marcel Reece has been named to his third-straight Pro Bowl as the sole Oakland starter for the January 25 game in Glendale, Ariz.
ALAMEDA — One Raiders player is headed to the Pro Bowl, but it’s not Khalil Mack.
Fullback Marcel Reece was selected by fans in to play in his third straight Pro Bowl as the lone Raiders player in in the game. Reece was also a Pro Bowl alternate in 2011. Safety Charles Woodson and Mack were named as 2014 alternates.
As one of football’s few remaining fullbacks, Reece plays a hybrid role in the Oakland offense, a mixture of tight end and halfback. He’s not a road-grater like the old-fashioned fullback, but technically plays the position.
Surprisingly, Mack, a defensive end listed as a linebacker that has given every Raiders opponent the blues this year, wasn’t voted in as a Pro Bowl starter.
Mack currently has 11.5 stuffs — just one-half half shy of J.J. Watt‘s lead — and 73 tackles, despite offenses running the ball away from him. And seemingly-constant double teams.
Reece will join other top players at University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on Sunday, Jan. 25, one week before Super Bowl XLIX kicks off in the same stadium.
