Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut is averaging 7.1 points and 9.3 rebounds in 20 games this season.
OAKLAND — Warriors big man Andrew Bogut sat out his fifth straight game on Thursday and the Warriors said there is no time table for his return after undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy on his right knee Wednesday.
The Aussie center left in the first quarter of the game in Minnesota on Dec. 8 with, what at the time was called, tendonitis in his knee. On Dec. 10, Bogut underwent an MRI that revealed chondromalacia and bone edema that was causing swelling and instability.
Golden State announced Thursday that after consulting with team doctors and his personal doctor in Australia, Bogut elected to undergo PRP therapy. General manager Bob Myers said that the team fully supports Bogut’s decision:
“Our number one concern is that Andrew is 100 percent healthy and we will continue to support him in any way we can to make that happen.”
Although the Warriors said there is no time table, head coach Steve Kerr remains optimistic that the injury will only sideline the big man a short time:
“Looks like it will keep him out the next couple of weeks but hopefully that will get him right and we’ll get him back.”
Kerr also said David Lee is expected back within the next week and will provide help and depth to the front court.
As for Bogut’s reaction to the time he is missing, Kerr said he wants to play, but health is more important:
“He’s fine. he’s frustrated because he always wants to be out there but the biggest thing is having him healthy and we don’t mess around with that.”
