Chiefs hand a beating back to the Raiders

The Oakland Raiders just aren’t a good road team.

After dominating the Kansas City Chiefs in Oakland just a few weeks ago, the coin was flipped and the Raiders dropped the ball in a 31-13 loss. Literally, and several times, in fact.

Wide receiver James Jones dropped three passes, one in the end zone, Andre Holmes dropped five passes, and tight end Mychal Rivera dropped four balls.

The Chiefs dominated the line of scrimmage, sending five or more rushers while on defense and allowing only one sack while on offense.

Kansas City, still in the playoff hunt with an 8-6 record, found it difficult to stop the Raiders’ rushing attack, with Latavius Murray gaining 59 yards on 12 carries.

But while their maligned rush defense couldn’t do enough, the Chiefs pass defense held the Raiders to 222 yards and sacked quarterback Derek Carr four times, adding a fumble recovery on a botched exchange.

Jones and Carr connected for a short touchdown in garbage time, but when the game was real, neither could get much going. Jones did finish with eight grabs, though, leading Oakland’s receiving corps in a game where the Raiders went aerial more than they ran the ball.

When all was said and done, Carr completed only 27 of his 56 pass attempts and finished with a 84.7 passer rating.

While the offense was stagnant, the defense was limited in their abilities, Ray Ray Armstrong started in the stead of linebacker Sio Moore, who was a gameday scratch with a hip injury.

Oakland took its 12th loss of the season and remains in line for the 5th overall draft selection once again.
