Driver fatally crashes into Benicia home

A 25-year-old woman was killed after she drove her vehicle into a Benicia home late Friday night, police said.

West Sacramento resident Katrina Martens was killed in a crash in the area of Hastings Drive and the 500 block of Rose Drive reported around 11:45 p.m., police said.

Arriving officers determined a car struck a home and turned over, trapping Martens, who was the sole occupant, according to police.

Benicia fire paramedics responded and pronounced her dead at the scene, police said.

The Solano County coroner’s office also arrived to the crash scene and notified Martens’ next of kin, according to police.

Speed was a factor in the crash that happened in an area where the speed limit was set at 25 mph, police said.

The vehicle, a 2000 Honda Accord, was traveling north on Hastings Drive where it drove past a stop sign at a T-intersection at Rose Drive and struck a curb, according to police.

It appears the vehicle then crashed into a home in the 500 block of Rose Drive, police said.

The residence sustained structural damage from the crash, according to police.

Martens was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, police said.

It has not been determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident, according to police.

Benicia police traffic investigators are looking into what led to the crash.
