Thieves target Petaluma’s unlocked cars

Police said there were 11 early morning thefts on Friday from unlocked vehicles and residences in northeast Petaluma.

The suspects were canvassing the neighborhoods looking for unlocked vehicles, Sgt. Rick Cox said.

The thefts from the vehicles included loose change, personal items and residences’ garage door openers, and the thieves then stole items from the garages, Cox said.

Three catalytic converters were cut from three vehicles, but it’s not known if those thefts are associated with the other thefts from the unlocked vehicles, Cox said.

The suspects are believed to be associated with a silver Honda Pilot or CR-V with an unknown license plate. The vehicle was seen leaving the area where a stolen vehicle was located.
