Cop allegedly struck by car, opens fire

San Leandro police are searching for a suspect who allegedly struck an officer with a vehicle this morning, prompting the officer to open fire, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening following the incident, which occurred in the 600 block of Broadmoor Boulevard, police said.

Alameda County fire officials said the collision was reported at 7:26 a.m. Officers approached two suspects in a vehicle.

One fled but was quickly taken into custody, police said.

The second suspect accelerated in the car and struck the officer, who opened fire in self-defense, according to police.

The suspect then fled in the vehicle and had not been found as of this morning, police said.
