Police are in a standoff with a burglary suspect at a San Jose home that started early this morning, a police spokeswoman said.
Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 900 block of South Second Street around 2 a.m., police Sgt. Heather Randol said.
Arriving officers found a window of the home broken into and located the suspect on the third-story roof, Randol said.
The male suspect appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of a narcotic, she said.
He did not follow police orders to come down from the roof and threw objects at officers and fire crews, according to Randol.
Police continued to negotiate with the suspect for several hours, she said.
San Jose police’s MERGE unit has responded to the scene, Randol said.
