Man is spat on, hit with car in dispute

A man was assaulted by a suspect attempting to hit him with a vehicle in Mill Valley Friday, a police spokesman said.

The incident occurred in a Rite Aid Pharmacy and Whole Foods parking lot at 701 East Blithedale Avenue around 3:50 p.m., according to Mill Valley police Sgt. Paul Wrapp.

The victim confronted the suspect for panhandling with a woman and two children near the Rite Aid and Whole Foods stores, telling them that panhandling was illegal, Wrapp said.

An argument ensued between the two men before the suspect and his family returned to their Green Honda SUV with a California license plate 5RUG104, according to Wrapp.

The victim stood behind the vehicle filming the suspect so that he could report the incident to police. The suspect then appeared to deliberately back into the victim, who was straddling his bicycle only several feed behind the car.

Conversation continued between the suspect and the victim, leading the suspect to spit in the victim’s face and drive away while striking the victim again with a portion of the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white or possibly Hispanic male in his 30s with dark hair.

Police arrived on scene and confirmed the assault and that the victim had suffered no injuries.

A countywide broadcast was initiated to locate the Honda.
