Giants eye 39-year-old Torii Hunter

With free agency heating up, the Giants expressed “preliminary interest” in free agent outfielder Torii Hunter, according to FOX Sports.

Hunter, 39, is coming off a two-year $26 million contract with the Detroit Tigers. He finished 2014 with a .286 average, 17 home runs and 83 RBIs in 142 games.

With the New York Mets’ signing of Michael Cuddyer, the demand for outfielders has increased.

Giants outfielder Michael Morse is also a free agent and garnered interest for the Cincinnati Reds.

Hunter will enter his 16th season in 2015. He’s a five-time All-Star and a nine-time Gold Glove winner. He started his career in center field, but primarily plays in a corner outfield spot now.

Other teams interested in Hunter are the Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners.

During a press conference Thursday, Giants general manager Brian Sabean said the team had put feelers out to multiple players on the free agent market.
