State grants tax relief to quake victims

The California Franchise Tax Board announced Thursday it is granting the same tax relief on state taxes that was provided on federal taxes by the Internal Revenue Service to residents and businesses in Napa and Solano counties who were affected by the 6.0-magnitude earthquake in August.

The IRS announced Wednesday it will postpone certain deadlines for making estimated third-quarter tax payments and for businesses and individuals that received an extension to file their tax returns in September and October following the Aug. 24 quake.

The new IRS deadline is Jan. 15, 2015. Complete details about the federal tax extension deadlines are available at www.irs.gov and information about the state tax deadline extensions at ftb.ca.gov.
