City acquires Visitacion Valley Community Center

Supervisor Malia Cohen and Mayor Ed Lee celebrated San Francisco’s acquisition of the Visitacion Valley Community Center on Thursday.

The building, located at 66 Raymond Ave., was donated by the property owner after over a year of discussions, according to the Office of Supervisor Cohen.

Mayor Ed Lee said in a statement:

“The Visitacion Valley Community Center is a vital asset to our youth, families, seniors and immigrants, and we will now embark on an effort to restore this building for the community.”

The building is adjacent to 50 Raymond Ave., home of San Francisco’s Cross-Cultural Family Center.

Supervisor Malia Cohen said in a statement:

“Today is not just about reclaiming a building, today is about reclaiming the symbolic importance that this place holds in the community.”

The future of 66 Raymond will feature services complementary to existing services in the area, including language access, senior and food pantry services, officials said.
