The morning fog lifted at Ocean Beach just before noon, shining bright sun on hundreds of kids, teachers and professionals competing in the 31st annual Leap Arts in Education Ocean Beach Sandcastle Contest.

Teams from thirty Bay Area elementary schools — assisted by professionals from local construction, architecture and engineering firms — are competing under this year’s contest theme of “Food, Glorious Food.”
Rooftop Elementary school students took home the top prize for best sandcastle with the “Candy Land” sculpture. The Rooftop team was assisted by professionals from Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Arup, and Ryan Associates.
