Man attacks student walking to school

An 11-year-old middle school student was attacked on the way to school in Fairfield Wednesday morning, police said.

A fair-skinned man in his 60s threw the child to the ground around 8 a.m. at the intersection of East Tabor Avenue and Falcon Drive as the student was walking to Grange Middle School, police said.

The suspect drew a knife and threatened the child, who was not harmed, escaped and ran home, police said. Police searched the area of the school at 1975 Blossom Ave. but did not find the suspect.

The suspect was wearing a brown jacket with a fur collar and might have a short graying beard, police said. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call (707) 428-7300.
