Suspect sought in attack on 85-year-old

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect involved in a felony assault and elder abuse case in Berkeley last month.

The 85-year-old victim, an Oakland native, was walking with a family member on Shattuck Avenue near Allston way at 9:31 p.m. on Sept. 23 when she was violently pushed to the ground by the suspect without provocation, according to Berkeley police.

The shove caused serious injury to the victim and required treatment at a hospital, police said.

The suspect is described as a woman with dark complexion in her 50s with short hair who is 5 feet 6 inches tall, has a medium build, was wearing a long gray coat and dark green baggy pants and was pushing a small shopping cart.

Anyone who may know the identity of the suspect or has information about the case is asked to call police at (510) 981-5741 or the BPD non-emergency line at (510) 981-5900. Anonymous tips may be given at (800) 222-8477.
