Truck fatally ejects driver on HWY4

A man was killed when he drove his vehicle off the roadway as he was exiting state Highway 4 from Antioch to Oakley this evening, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The accident was reported around 5:30 p.m. when the vehicle was exiting eastbound Highway 4 at the Laurel Road off-ramp, CHP Officer John Fransen said.

The man who was driving a white Ford F-350 pickup truck veered to the left and his vehicle left the roadway, Fransen said.

The pickup truck overturned multiple times and ejected the driver, who did not appear to wear his seatbelt, according to Fransen.

The man was the sole occupant of the truck and pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesman said.

Investigators have not determined if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the accident, Fransen said.

One lane of the off-ramp remained closed as of 7:30 p.m., CHP officials said. The Contra Costa County coroner’s office was called to the scene.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the CHP’s Contra Costa area office at (925) 646-4980.
