Too Short cited for loaded gun at airport

Oakland rapper Too Short was cited at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank on Thursday a day after bolting from a security checkpoint where TSA screeners found a loaded gun in his carryon bag, police said Friday.

The 48-year-old rapper, born Todd Anthony Shaw, was passing through a security checkpoint at the airport around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday when a TSA employee noticed that a handgun appeared to be inside his carryon luggage, Burbank police Officer Joshua Kendrick said:

“Before officers or TSA personnel could contact him, he left through an exit door, leaving all of his belongings behind.”

Shaw returned to the airport with his lawyer on Thursday and was cited for alleged possession of a loaded handgun in a public place and released.

Kendrick said he did not know which flight Shaw was scheduled to board on Wednesday or whether he was traveling with others.

The rapper is set to appear in court in Burbank on Nov. 3. A spokesperson for Shaw could not immediately be reached for comment. The Los Angeles-born, Oakland-bred rapper is best known for hits “The Ghetto” and “Blow the Whistle” and is considered a pioneer of West Coast hip-hop and an institution in the Bay Area hip-hop scene.
