Parolee suspected of beating his mom

Police arrested a San Mateo County parolee Monday on suspicion of assaulting his mother in their west Santa Rosa home, a police sergeant said.

Giovanni Montes, 27, who is required to live in San Mateo County, is suspected of punching and kicking his mother in the head and face during an argument Sunday night at a residence in the 2400 block of College Park Circle, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.

Police went to the residence around 8 a.m. Monday after the victim’s daughter flagged down a police officer and said her brother assaulted her mother, Banayat said.

Officers found the 47-year-old mother on the porch and her son inside the residence.

There was blood on the floor in the entry and hallway and on the dining room walls and carpet, Banayat said.

The victim was taken to the hospital while police questioned her son, Banayat said.

Police learned Montes was on state parole in San Mateo County for robbery and was prohibited from possessing gang paraphernalia.

Police found evidence he was living with his mother and had items indicating gang association.

He was arrested on a parole hold, Banayat said.

At the hospital, Montes’ mother said her son punched and kicked her numerous times in the head and face and struck her in the head with a glass mug.

The injuries included cuts and broken bones in her face and nose, according to Banayat.

She told police her daughter arrived at the home Monday morning and learned about the assault, Banayat said.

Montes was then arrested on suspicion of assault causing great bodily injury and was booked in Sonoma County Jail.

He is being held under no bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.
