Sausalito police announced last week they are investigating two recent, suspicious circumstances in which people falsely identified themselves to residents.
In the first case, two women were going door-do-door soliciting for donations to pay for a college trip to Spain, police said. Police were able to speak with the women, who they learned were not affiliated with a college.
The second case involves a man who approached a resident and claimed to be a plumber working at a home next door, police said. The man asked the resident if he could enter the home to see if his work was impacting the resident’s water service, according to police.
He was wearing a shirt with the name of a plumbing company, police said. The man left the area after the resident did not allow him to enter the home and police were unable to find him.
The plumbing company the man claimed to work for told police he was not their employee. Police are warning residents to report anyone who approaches their homes and appears suspicious.
Residents are advised to quickly end a conversation with the suspicious person or persons and contact police.
