Suspected vandal leads cops on rooftop chase

Officers arrested a man in Santa Rosa on suspicion of felony vandalism and resisting arrest Tuesday, police said.

Police responded to a report of car vandalism near Deturk Avenue at 3:58 p.m. and found Henry Scholten, 35, of Santa Rosa, damaging another man’s vehicle, according to Santa Rosa police.

The victim, who had no affiliation with Scholten, reported that the suspect smashed out his windows and threw a ladder at his vehicle, causing extensive body damage, police said.

Scholten fled once officers arrived and was soon found on a nearby residential rooftop, police said.

The suspect began running across rooftops before jumping to the ground and running inside a residence, according to police.

After exiting the residence, Scholten began jumping backyard fences until a nearby resident directed police to a backyard where he was found hiding in some shrubbery.

Scholten resisted arrest and struggled with officers, causing a Santa Rosa police officer to deploy his Taser stun gun.

Scholten was able to remove the Taser probes and continued to fight officers, but was eventually subdued and arrested, police said.

Scholten was medically cleared, then booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism, resisting arrest, and three outstanding warrants, also for resisting arrest and vandalism.
