Blaze flame-broils Pittsburg Carls Jr.

Firefighters brought a two-alarm fire at a Carl’s Jr. restaurant in Pittsburg under control Saturday morning, a Contra Costa County fire marshal said.

Fire officials received a call at 8:33 a.m. from an employee at the Carl’s Jr. restaurant, located at 4595 Century Blvd. near Auto Center Road, reporting a grease fire in a deep fryer, Contra Costa County Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.

The fire was brought under control around 9:35 a.m. and no injuries were reported, Marshall said. The fast food restaurant was open for business when the fryer caught fire and all employees and customers were able to safely exit the building, according to Marshall.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and initially attempted to control the blaze using fire extinguishers, but the fire spread through the ducts above the fryer to the structure, Marshall said.

The cause of the grease fire remains under investigation, according to the fire marshal.
