Woman indicted over $1M in fake W-2s

An Oakland resident was charged Thursday with conspiring to file false tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service.

According to the indictment, Valorie Shaw, from April 2011 through April 2013, took identities from her employer and received text messages from co-conspirators containing personal and identifying information, according to the United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of California.

Prosecutors said Shaw used that information to create W-2s to support fraudulent claims for refunds.

Prosecutors said Shaw submitted about $1 million in false tax returns to the IRS.

She could face up to 10 years and prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count if convicted.
