DUI crackdown nets 28 drivers in one day

Authorities in San Mateo County report arresting 28 people this weekend for drugged or drunken driving – the same number they arrested during the same enforcement period last year.

The arrests were part of a special Avoid the 23 enforcement effort that took place starting midnight Friday until midnight Saturday.

Some county agencies have not yet reported the results of their enforcement efforts, so the total number of arrests during this period could change, Daly City police officials said.

There have not been any DUI-related crashes reported in the county so far this weekend, police reported.

Extra DUI patrols will be deployed tonight in Atherton and Daly City, according to Daly City police.
