About half a dozen small fires were ignited along eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland this morning after four male suspects were seen shooting off fireworks from an unidentified vehicle, according to an Oakland fire battalion chief.
The fires were reported between Lakeshore and Fruitvale avenues on I-580 shortly after 10:15 a.m., fire Battalion Chief Geoff Hunter said.
According to Hunter, the largest fire covered an area about 10 feet by 30 feet.
The CHP is looking for witnesses of the fires and urging anyone who saw anything suspicious near I-580 this morning to call the California Highway Patrol at (800) 835-5247.
