A bomb threat has closed the West Oakland BART station and caused major delays between San Francisco and Oakland, a BART spokeswoman said.
The report of a possible bomb on an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit bus approaching the station came in shortly before 7:30 p.m. and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was called to the scene, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.
The bus is parked underneath the tracks at Seventh and Chester streets, Trost said.
The sheriff’s office has K-9 units searching the area, she said.
Trains are not running through the Transbay Tube between San Francisco and Oakland, Trost said.
Trains are turning around at the West Oakland and Embarcadero BART stations, according to Trost. BART has requested AC Transit to supply more buses to transport passengers between San Francisco and Oakland, she said.
There is no estimated time the station will reopen.
