One person has died following an officer-involved shooting early this morning in Oakland, according to the police department.
Officers driving near 55th and Fairfax avenues around 4 a.m. today spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with a July 12 home invasion robbery and pistol whipping in the 4700 block of MacArthur Boulevard. Police officials said the driver of the wanted silver 2001 Volvo C70 failed to stop, inciting a police pursuit.
Officers briefly lost sight of the Volvo, then found it again near 105th and Edes avenues.
Police Officer Johnna Watson said the suspect fled on foot in that area, into nearby yards. Officers established a perimeter in the area, and with the help of a K-9 unit found the suspect and shot him.
The suspect died at the scene, Watson said. No officers or deputies were injured in the incident.
According to Watson, investigators are still processing the crime scene.
The Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section, along with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the sheriff’s office are investigating this shooting.
