Bicyclist smashes into CHP cruiser

A bicyclist suffered minor injuries when he struck a California Highway Patrol vehicle in Campbell Friday morning, a CHP spokesman said.

A CHP officer had completed a traffic stop and was finishing notes while sitting in the vehicle pulled over on northbound San Tomas Expressway near Budd Avenue shortly before 8 a.m., CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

The bicyclist estimated he was traveling at about 20 mph north on San Tomas Expressway where he struck the back of the vehicle and landed on the rear windshield, Lee said.

The man suffered minor facial lacerations and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, according to Lee. The officer was uninjured in the crash, he said.

The scene was cleared as of about 8:45 a.m., Lee said.
