A San Francisco restaurant says it is receiving angry calls and emails from members of the public who have confused it with a Monterey restaurant that recently drew news coverage for its ban on noisy children.
The owners of No. 9 Fishermen’s Grotto — in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf — say they are in no way affiliated with Monterey’s Old Fisherman’s Grotto, which drew widespread news coverage this week for its controversial policy banning crying or noisy children from its dining hall.
Anthony Geraldi, a partner in the San Francisco restaurant and great-grandson of the restaurant’s founder, Mike Geraldi told Bay City News:
“We love kids and the families that bring them.”
The Monterey restaurant’s policy, posted on its web site, does not explicitly ban children altogether, but states:
“No strollers, no high chairs, no booster chairs. Children crying or making loud noises are a distraction to other diners, and as such are not allowed in the dining room.”
The policy appears to have been in place for several years, according to multiple news reports.
