AT&T Park food workers approve new contract

An agreement has been reached in labor negotiations involving food and beverage workers at AT&T Park.

Hundreds of workers from Unite Here Local 2 — the union representing 800 stadium workers at AT&T Park — voted this weekend to ratify a contract with Centerplate, the company that provides hospitality services at the stadium.

According to a Centerplate press release, the agreement includes wage increases, health care and improved pension benefits.

Liz Keegan, a union representative, said of the contract:

“Our members are really excited about this contract … What we’ve achieved is really what workers wanted, and we don’t feel that we had to compromise what we needed.”

Keegan would not reveal specifics of the new deal, but told SFBay the contract was especially important given rising costs of living:

“To be able to maintain the standard of living, wages have to go up. Same with pension … We’re really happy and proud of being able to have achieved that.”

Of the workers who voted, 98 percent approved the contract, which will last through the start of the 2019 major league season.

Des Hauge, CEO of Centerplate, said in the press release:

“This agreement underscores Centerplate’s commitment to its employees, maintains wages and benefits as some of the best in the league, and allows us to continue providing the highest standard of service to fans of the San Francisco Giants.”

Unite Here Local 2 represents 12,000 food service and hotel workers in San Francisco and San Mateo counties.
