Police continue probing bike theft ring

The Marin County District Attorney’s Office has dismissed a possession of stolen property charge against a Kentfield woman who was suspected of participating in a bike theft ring.

The charge against Rebecca Hammett, 50, was dismissed Thursday in Marin County Superior Court pending further investigation, Chief Deputy District Attorney Barry Borden said.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hammett on June 24. She was suspected of buying stolen bicycles from thieves in Marin County.

More than 130 bicycles and frames, including dozens of high-end mountain and road bikes, were found in Kentfield, Greenbrae and Corte Madera during executions of search warrants, sheriff’s Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

The sheriff’s office posted photos of the bicycles and frames on its website.

Hammett was released from the Marin County Jail but has other charges in separate matters pending.
