Gas leak clears Oakland police HQ

A suspected gas leak led to the evacuation of the Police Administration Building in Oakland Friday morning, officials said.

Oakland police headquarters at 455 Seventh St. was evacuated due to the suspected leak, according to a Tweet posted by a police lieutenant.

The California Highway Patrol said the gas leak was reported nearby in the 500 block of Sixth Street at about 11:30 a.m. The CHP is assisting in traffic control in the area and closed the Broadway off-ramp from northbound Interstate Highway 880.

PG&E is sending a representative to the site to investigate the suspected leak, according to a PG&E spokeswoman.

Police Lt. Chris Bolton said the evacuation has shut down some of the department’s services but emergency and online services remain intact.
