Anyone doubting the A’s depth can look to the All Star roster and acknowledge how wrong they are.
Seven players on the A’s 25-man roster are heading to Minneapolis for the 2014 Major League Baseball All Star game.
That’s just under one-third of the roster, for added perspective.
Josh Donaldson was the only A’s player winning the fan vote as a starter at third base, and Jeff Samardjiza is listed on the National League roster.
Pitchers Sean Doolittle and Scott Kazmir, catcher Derek Norris, first baseman Brandon Moss and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes were added to the team by manager John Farrell.
The last time six A’s — not counting Samardjiza — played in the All Star game was 1975. Oakland won the Fall Classic the previous two seasons, losing the ALCS to Boston at season’s end.
It’s just desserts for Oakland, the team overpowering nearly every opponent faced thus far, sporting a .625 winning percentage. Factor in their +135 run differential and the American League standings, the A’s have a 98.6 percent shot at making the postseason.
Certainly having seven All-Stars is another indicator.
The game will be played on July 15th, 5 p.m. EST.
