Teens arrested after alleged fireworks sale

Plainclothes officers bought illegal fireworks from an unsuspecting 18-year-old man and a juvenile in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood Monday night, according to a police spokeswoman.

The pair allegedly sold the illegal explosive devices to officers around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of Grant Street, police spokeswoman Sgt. Danielle Newman said. The 15-year-old boy and 18-year-old Eric Au Yeung, of San Francisco, were arrested after the sale.

Au Yeung was arrested on suspicion of sales or transport of destructive devices, conspiracy, child endangerment and committing a crime while out on bail, Newman said. The child endangerment count comes from working with the 15-year-old boy, who is considered a juvenile.

Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, San Francisco police are reminding residents that purchasing, selling or possessing any fireworks is illegal. A fireworks display will be held at San Francisco’s Pier 39 on Friday night for Independence Day.
