The bell tower at San Jose’s Winchester Mystery House will ring 13 times today at 1 p.m. as part of a “Friday the 13th” tradition.
The superstitious day will be celebrated throughout the day at the haunted house at 525 S. Winchester Blvd. known for its eerie ghosts and odd architecture.
The honorary bell ringer will be San Jose Spiders professional Ultimate Frisbee team member Beaufort Kittredge.
A rare chance to tour the creepy mansion by flashlight will be available between 8 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
The house was continually built up for decades starting in 1884 by Sarah Winchester, widow of gun tycoon William Winchester. She was apparently obsessed with the number 13.
The number 13 has important significance at the haunted house that has 13 bedrooms, 13 fireplaces, 13 bathrooms and 13 steps on the stairs.
During the evening event, there will be an appearance by juggler and magician Mr. Miraculous, balloon art and a silhouette illustrator.
