Giants deal David Huff back to Yankees for cash

The Giants traded lefty reliever David Huff back to the New York Yankees Wednesday.

David Huff will rejoin his former team in return for cash considerations, the Giants said.

Huff (1-0, 6.30 ERA) appeared in 16 games this season for the Giants.

Huff, 29, was designated for assignment last week. The Giants had 10 days to trade, release or place him outright on waivers.

With Matt Cain’s recent activation from the DL and and the impending promotion of right-handed reliever Santiago Casilla, Huff’s departure from the Giants was inevitable.

The Giants have maxed out the 40-man roster. With George Kontos having another option, he figures to be the odd man out when Casilla returns.

Huff pitched in 11 games for the Yankees in 2013. He was sent to the Giants in January for cash after the Yankees signed Masahiro Tanaka.
