Logan Couture doesn’t get into fights very often, and the Sharks would probably like for things to stay that way.
The 25-year-old forward underwent successful hand surgery, General Manger Doug Wilson announced via press release:
“Last week, Logan underwent successful surgery to repair a hand injury suffered in a fight in Game Six of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against Mike Richards. The procedure went as expected and Logan will be ready for the start of training camp.”
The fight took place with just over five minutes left in the third period of Game 6, after the Kings had scored and taken a 4-1 lead. Perhaps frustration got the best of Couture, who started jousting with Richards immediately after the puck dropped at center ice.
The two went at it, and both players landed solid punches, which is where Couture probably hurt his hand. He showed no visible discomfort as he skated away after being separated, and went on to play more than 18 minutes in Game 7.
In the playoffs, it is common for players to fight through injuries, but Couture’s name wasn’t on the initial list released by the team of players who had injuries during the playoffs.
This is the second time Couture has had his hand operated on this year. He had another surgery in January that forced him to miss the final 16 games before the Olympic break.
In 65 games last season, Couture recorded 23 goals and 30 assists. As Wilson’s statement reads, he is expected to be ready for training camp.
