A Hayward man was arrested after allegedly striking two pedestrians and ditching his car.
A Hayward man was arrested early Monday morning after he allegedly drove his car through traffic in downtown San Francisco on Sunday night, striking two pedestrians as well as a hotel near Union Square and a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus, a police spokesman said.
Edwin Delatorre, 26, was arrested in Hayward on suspicion of several counts of felony and misdemeanor hit-and-run, reckless driving, speeding and running a red light following an incident that started around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy.
Delatorre allegedly drove his red Ford Mustang and struck the Parc 55 hotel at Mason and Eddy streets, then hit a Muni bus at that intersection, Shyy said.
He continued driving to Market and Fifth streets, where he struck a pedestrian, who was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He allegedly ran a red light and struck another pedestrian at Kearny and Market streets. That pedestrian was also taken to the hospital but is expected to survive, Shyy said.
Delatorre made it to Kearny and Pine streets, where he abandoned his car and fled on foot, Shyy said. Investigators were able to follow suspect leads and found Delatorre in Hayward, where he was arrested, Shyy said.
Delatorre is the registered owner of the Mustang, according to Shyy.
The pedestrian who was seriously injured remains in the hospital this morning. The other pedestrian has since been released, Shyy said.
