Fremont car­jack suspect sought

Police are looking for a man who held another man at gunpoint before stealing his work van in Fremont on Thursday.

The victim told police that was carjacked near the intersection of Cisco Street and Nicolet Avenue in Fremont. Police said the victim cleans and buffs floors for a living and was driving his work van when he was carjacked.

Officers said the victim drove the van to pick up his co-worker, parked the van and went inside his co-worker’s home. When the two workers exited the home and returned to the van, the victim noticed the suspect in the van’s rear seat.

The suspect, described as a black man with a medium build, between 28 and 30 years old, had short hair and a slight stubble beard. The suspect was wearing a black and white shirt with black pants, police said.

The suspect brandished a firearm and demanded that the victim get inside the work van. The suspect’s handgun was described as a black 9mm or Glock 17, police said.

He then directed the victim to drive west over the Dumbarton Bridge, police said. On the western side of the bridge, the suspect ordered the victim to stop the van. He then demanded the victim’s wallet and valuables, according to police.

The suspect then drove away in the work van, described as a white Chevrolet Astro Van, police said. Anyone with information about this carjacking or the suspect is urged to contact Fremont police at (510) 790-6800.
