‘Extremely intoxicated’ mom allegedly flees rear-ender

A woman who police said was extremely drunk when she fled the scene of a traffic accident in Petaluma with her two young children in the car was arrested Friday night, according to police.

The woman had allegedly rear-ended another car in front of a CVS store at 365 E. Washington St. at 8:36 p.m. and then left the scene, according to police.

A witness to the accident followed the beige Honda Utility away from the scene. The driver of the Honda drove up onto a curb downtown before stopping at an address on B Street, police said.

Officers found the driver of the Honda, identified as Brooke Lopaka, 32, and said she was “extremely intoxicated” and failed sobriety tests.

According to police, Lopaka admitted that her 4-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter were both passengers in the car when she got into the accident.

Police arrested Lopaka on suspicion of driving under the influence, child endangerment and misdemeanor hit-and-run.

She was booked into the Sonoma County Jail under $40,000 bail. Her children were released to a family member, police said.
