First date goes horribly wrong for online dater

A man was robbed at gunpoint Thursday morning in Bernal Heights after an attempted meeting with a woman through an online dating service, a police spokesman said.

The victim, in his 30s, contacted a woman to arrange a meeting around midnight in the first block of College Avenue, off Mission Street, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

When the victim arrived, two men approached him with a gun and demanded his property, Shyy said.

The victim handed the suspects his wallet and cellphone. The three then fled in a black sedan.

Officers were notified and followed the sedan to the Bayview District. The driver did not stop and a chased followed. The chase ended when the sedan crashed near McLaren Park.

No one was injured.

The three initial suspects and two additional people were detained. Additional details about those in custody was still being sorted Thursday morning.
