Paul McCartney to close down Candlestick

Sir Paul McCartney will perform in the Bay Area for the first time since last year’s Outside Lands.

The former Beatles guitarist will play the final public event at Candlestick Park on Thursday, August 14.

Candlestick has a special tie with the Beatles, with the stadium hosting their final live concert on August 29. 1966. Tickets ranged from $4.50 to $6.50.

McCartney’s farewell will fall almost exactly 50 years after the Beatles’ first Bay Area gig on August 19, 1964 at the Cow Palace in Daly City.

The show is titled “Farewell to Candlestick: The Final Concert.”

Tickets — probably more expensive than the 1966 performance — will go on sale at 10 a.m. May 5 through Ticketmaster. Tickets for other shows on McCartney’s tour have ranged from $25 to $250.
