Bumgarner slams Giants to Friday night win

AT&T PARK — In his first at-bat, Madison Bumgarner smashed a soaring sacrifice fly that came within inches of clearing the left-field fence.

In his second at bat, he left no doubt, launching a majestic grand slam into the left field stands that splashed waves through a sea of orange Friday night, leading the Giants to a 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Orange Friday.

Bumgarner’s bat drove in five of the Giants’ six runs, but his arm also kept the Giants in the game through the first six innings. He gave up four earned runs, struck out seven and is now 4-1 against the Rockies in AT&T Park in his last seven starts.

Bumgarner’s grand slam — the third home run of his career — was the second ever by a Giants pitcher. The first was by Shawn Estes in 2000 against the Expos.

Things got dicey for the Giants in the eighth inning when Santiago Casilla gave up a leadoff bunt single to Nolan Arenado. Arenado advanced to second base after a throwing error by Pablo Sandoval before Charlie Blackmon drove in Arenado on a single to make the game 6-5.

Jordan Pacheco stepped in and hit a grounder up the middle that Casilla lept for and grabbed at his apex. Casilla then had the presence of mind to catch Blackmon too far off second to take out the lead runner for the first out.

D.J. LeMahieu then lined a ball to center fielder Juan Perez, who caught it and doubled up Pacheco on a laser back to first base to end the inning with a 6-5 lead intact.

Sergio Romo shut the door on the Rockies for his third save of the season. He struck out the side looking on 17 pitches.

Michael Morse singled in the bottom of the eighth to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Morse is now 13-for-33 (.393) so far this year for the Giants. He’s now hit safely in 15 of 16 career games against the Rockies and is 29-for-65 (.446) with two home runs and 12 RBIs against them.

The Giants entered Friday’s 250th-consecutive regular-season sellout third in runs in the majors with 55. They put up another six in the game to give them 61 so far this season.

The Giants will send Matt Cain (0-1, 5.73) to the mound Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. against lefty Brett Anderson (0-2, 4.50).
