A Saturday night loss to the Stockton Thunder left the San Francisco Bulls’ offensive lines with many bumps and bruises.
Head coach Pat Curcio told SFBay there was “a lot in transition” roster-wise to put a healthy team out on the ice for Sunday’s 3-2 shootout loss against the Ontario Reign.
Curcio was also perhaps seeing into the future, as the Bulls and AHL affiliate Worcester Sharks have been busy shuffling players between camps and reshaping their rosters over the early part of the week.
San Francisco announced Tuesday that the San Jose Sharks have assigned forward Sebastian Stalberg to the Bulls from Worcester, as well as loaning forward Riley Brace.
The Bulls also acquired forward Ryan Flanigan from the Toledo Walleye, and goaltender Alex Kangas from the Alaska Aces.
The moves come a day after the Bulls announced that points-leader Tyler Gron (29 points in 31 games) earned his first AHL call-up to Worcester, and that Mark Lee was headed to Europe after signing a tryout agreement with a team in the German Elite League.
Gron’s and Lee’s presence on the SF squad will be missed — not just for their scoring — but for the chemistry Gron showed with line mates Brett Findlay and Jordan Morrison.
But the Bulls have skill coming in. Stalberg has totaled 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 101 games with Worcester, five of those points (1 goal, 4 assists) during 23 games this season.
Brace has already logged one assist — in the Bulls’ home opener win, no less — in two games with San Francisco before going up to the AHL, where he has tallied three assists in 24 games.
Brace and Stalberg also participated in Sharks training camp prior to the start of the 2013-2014 NHL season.
Second-year pro Flanigan, a new addition to the Sharks franchise, registered six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 17 games this season between the Toledo Walleye and Wheeling Nailers.
In his first season of professional hockey, Flanigan notched 33 points in 59 games between the Greenville Road Warriors in the ECHL and the Wichita Thunder in the CHL.
In an interesting move, San Francisco also acquired netminder Kangas (0-1-2) from Alaska for future considerations. Let’s see if the 26-year-old goalie is present when the Aces come to town this weekend.
The San Francisco Bulls begin their three-game weekend homestand against the Alaska Aces Thursday. Puck drop for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with action also scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights.
