49ers shuffle roster, practice squad

The 49ers made three transactions Tuesday afternoon and lost a key practice squad player.

Defensive lineman Tank Carradine was placed on injured reserve and guard Ryan Seymour was signed off Seattle’s practice squad to take his spot on the 53-man roster.

Carradine — a 2013 second-round pick (40th overall) — spent the first eight games of his rookie season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list rehabbing a torn ACL suffered while at Florida State. Carradine was activated  October 29, yet he’s been inactive for every game since.

Seymour was picked by the Seahawks in the seventh round (220th overall) of this year’s draft out of Vanderbilt and has been on the practice squad since Sept. 11.

Meanwhile, the 49ers also signed wide receiver/returner Devon Wylie to the practice squad amid multiple reports that practice squad safety Michael Thomas was signing with the Miami Dolphins.

This season Wylie has had brief stints on the Seattle, Arizona, Pittsburgh and Tennessee practice squads and was activated by the Titans for two games in which he handled return duties. He was drafted by the Chiefs in 2012 and saw action in six games for Kansas City.

Thomas, 24, has spent his entire career on the 49ers practice squad since signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford in 2012 where he initially played under head coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
