Jim Harbaugh on Friday quoted his hero Winston Churchill about what the 49ers intended to do in Sunday’s game:
“History will be kind to us because we intend to write it.”
Write it they did.
In-your-face defense and a fierce rushing attack against the NFL’s worst run defense catapulted the San Francisco 49ers to a 42-10 clobbering of the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday night at Wembley Stadium in London.
The 49ers got their fifth consecutive win improving to 6-2 heading into the bye week, while the Jaguars fell to an embarrassing 0-8.
This was the fifth straight week the 49ers have put up 30 points or more.
San Francisco’s offense scored 28 points in their first 38 plays and took a 28-3 lead into the half.
Harbaugh said post-game:
“The players were dialed in.”
Colin Kaepernick completed 10 of 16 passes for 164 yards including a 2-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis, but the ground game was the key for the 49ers.
Kaepernick ran seven times for 54 yards and two touchdowns while Frank Gore had 19 carries for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Kendall Hunter rushed nine times for 84 yards.
Meanwhile NaVorro Bowman led the 49ers defense with 10 tackles and was among seven defenders who each knocked down a Chad Henne pass.
Jacksonville’s only touchdown came on a blown coverage by Tramaine Brock that allowed Henne to hit Mike Brown for a 29-yard strike.
Patrick Willis later stripped Maurice Jones-Drew in the fourth quarter and Dan Skuta recovered the fumble and returned it 47 yards for his first career touchdown.
Vic Fangio’s unit held the Jaguars offense to just 90 rushing yards.
Special teams tackling was solid all-around and Andy Lee punted just one time for 61 yards, but return man Kyle Williams fumbled and recovered the opening kick off then later failed to let a ball bounce out of bounds that would have resulted in solid field position before the half.
He was later replaced by Anthony Dixon who returned a kick 47 yards.
Harbaugh won his 30th regular season game (30-9-1) becoming the fourth-fastest head coach to reach 30 wins since NFL merger in 1970.
Neither team recorded a sack or hit the opposing quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. … An announced crowd 83,559 attended the NFL International Series game. … Kaepernick’s last game with two rushing touchdowns was against the Packers in last season’s divisional playoff game. … The 49ers host the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 10.
