Woman arrested after hash oil explosion

An explosion led Santa Rosa police to more than 100 pounds of marijuana and a secret hash oil laboratory.
Reports of multiple explosions Friday afternoon led Santa Rosa police to a scene straight out of “Breaking Bad.”
Instead of Walter White’s signature blue meth, police discovered a whole lot of green at a home on the 300 block of Yolanda Avenue: More than 100 pounds of marijuana, a bunch of cash and a secret hash oil laboratory.
According to police, an explosion occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the backyard laboratory, where “honey oil” — a form of hash — was being made with highly flammable butane gas.
The blast destroyed a canopy covering the lab, two outbuildings and left a 10-foot area burnt black. According to Sgt. John Cregan, shards of glass were everywhere.
Police arrested Jessica Hahn, a 25-year-old Santa Rosa woman who was in the house, on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of marijuana for sale.
In a press release, Cregan said police fear at least one person may have been seriously injured during the blast and escaped.
This latest incident is just one of the many explosions that have occurred since do-it-yourself hash oil experiments became trendy.
Thanks to magazine articles and online videos, amateur hash oil enthusiasts have been blowing up their homes in the Bay Area and across the country.
In March, a 16-year-old Petaluma boy received minor burns to his face and arms when a hash oil experiment started a fire at his apartment. More than two years ago, a hash oil blast killed three in a Livermore home.
Anyone with information about the operation on Yolanda Avenue is encouraged to call Narcotics Detective John Whitten at (707) 543-4075.
