Sharks, Bulls shuffle rosters for season

The Bay Area’s hockey franchises have made some final moves to their rosters, preparing for the opening of the NHL season this week and the ECHL season later in the month of October.

The San Jose Sharks announced final cuts on Monday that got their roster down to 23 players before their home opener this Thursday.

Forwards Bracken Kearns and John McCarthy, defensemen Taylor Doherty and Matt Tennyson, and goaltender Harri Sateri were all assigned to the Sharks AHL camp.

Forward Matt Pelech was the lone member of Sharks training camp assigned to the ECHL affiliate San Francisco Bulls. Pelech is the only player headed to San Francisco before their training camp opens on October 4.

The Worcester Sharks of the AHL assigned forward Ryan McDonough and defensemen Collin Bowman and Steven Tarasuk to San Francisco over the weekend. Tarasuk and McDonough were both signed to two-way ECHL/AHL contracts in the month of August.

Members of the Bulls roster who were called up to Worcester’s training camp last week were reassigned to San Francisco over the weekend. Forwards Kris Belan and Luke Judson will be present at the start of training camp in San Francisco.

The Sharks home opener is Thursday vs. Vancouver, while the Bulls start the season on the road and open at the Cow Palace until November 8.

UPDATE: The Sharks announced Wednesday, October 2, that forward Matt Pelech was recalled from San Francisco to San Jose for Thursday’s home opener against the Vancouver Canucks. Rookie forward Freddie Hamilton, who had originally made the opening night roster, was assigned to Worcester.
