Caltrain fire halts train at Millbrae Station

A southbound Caltrain caught fire at Millbrae station Saturday night, billowing smoke and forcing an evacuation of the train but causing no injuries.

Giants fans and other passengers were forced off the train around 9:50 p.m. before  fire crews could respond and extinguish the fire.

Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn told SFBay everybody got off Caltrain No. 448 safely. Early indications point to an issue with the brakes as the cause of the fire, Dunn said.

Pictures of the smoky fire were quickly posted to Twitter:

Dunn told SFBay Caltrain service other than train No. 448 was not delayed, though No. 448 remained at the Millbrae platform. Southbound service was relocated to the northbound platform until the train could be cleared.
