SANTA CLARA — At Wednesday’s practice, Colin Kaepernick sported a black non-contact jersey for the second day in a row.
Kaepernick is 100 percent okay — stressing he isn’t a fan of the jersey.
The non-contact rule came in handy after Ahmad Brooks veered too close to the high-value quarterback on a pass rush during Monday’s session.
How much Kaepernick plays against the Vikings on Sunday isn’t clear. But considering the uncertainty at the backup spot — and the team’s wish for nothing “freakish” to happen — it shouldn’t be much.
Head coach Jim Harabugh confirmed Colt McCoy will be the No. 2 Sunday while practice squad veteran Scott Tolzien and seventh-rounder B.J. Daniels will also get reps.
Notably, Daniels led the 49ers to a comeback victory in Kansas City last week while McCoy and Tolzien struggled and haven’t impressed in training camp or preseason games.
Both veterans find themselves on the bubble, with today’s report from CSN Bay Area that the 49ers are expected to visit with 33-year-old quarterback and part-time wide receiver Seneca Wallace.
Wallace was released by the New Orleans Saints earlier this week.
Though Wallace didn’t play last season, he does fit the 49ers versatility need with an 81.3 quarterback rating while averaging 4.3 yards per carry and 17.7 yards per catch.
The Sacramento native was most recently McCoy’s backup from 2010-2011 in Cleveland where current 49ers special teams coordinator Brad Seely and offensive consultant Eric Mangini once coached them along with Phil Dawson, Bubba Ventrone, and Eric Wright (not yet with team).
No official word from the team on when a visit will take place.
Ventrone practiced while linebacker Nate Stupar (undisclosed) and safety Darcel McBath (foot) sat out. … Harbaugh confirmed that recently acquired wideout Jon Baldwin, running back Kendall Hunter, and second-round tight end Vance McDonald will play against the Vikings on Aug. 25. … Austin Collie, Lavelle Hawkins, Chad Hall, and Ricardo Lockette were mentioned by Harbaugh as healthy wide receivers he’d like to see get more reps with A.J. Jenkins traded.
